Alcohol & Drug Commitments...

If you know a Cherokee County resident who is an alcoholic or drug addict, and because of their addiction, an emergency commitment is needed because the person is likely to harm Himself or others, you must first contact the Cherokee County Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse (CCCADA).  Contact CCCADA:

Mental Health Commitments...

If you know a Cherokee County resident who is mentally ill, and because of their illness, an emergency commitment is needed because the person is likely to harm himself or others, you must first contact the Cherokee County Mental Health Center.  Contact Mental Health:

Important Info...

• DO NOT COME TO THE PROBATE COURT FIRST; GO TO THE APPROPRIATE HEALTH CENTER BEFORE COMING TO PROBATE COURT.  The Probate Court can only assist after the appropriate Health Center has done an initial screening.

• If the person is seen by the appropriate Center and it is determined that hospitalization is required, the Adult can be transported to a facility. If the person refuses to come to the Center for an evaluation, then you may bring the necessary document issued to you from the Center to the Probate Court and seek an Order of Detention. YOU MUST KNOW THE LOCATION OF THE INDIVIDUAL! Law Enforcement cannot pick up the person without an address.

• Upon finding that the individual needs hospitalization, he or she will be transported to a facility for treatment.
